ANNUAL GIVING—NOVEMBER 2014
This year, thanks to the generosity of our members, the Museum has paid off the Astoria Builder's Supply building, and its conversion to a fine collections storage facility is nearly complete. Having all of the Museum's collections in this state-of-the-art Maritime Heritage Resource Center gives us many new opportunities, such as using stored artifacts in new and exciting exhibits. But best of all, we can design new learning experiences that will reach all of the Museum's constituency—children and adults alike.
The Columbia River Maritime Museum has a well-deserved reputation for encouraging curiosity and appreciation of the maritime history and traditions of the Columbia River and the Pacific Northwest. Now we can greatly expand our education focus by increasing both our on-site programming and our outreach activities. Our goal in 2015 is to reach the widest possible array of students and adults who, in fact, spend the majority of their lives learning in places like libraries and museums—outside school settings.
Your gift this year will fund the future. Socrates said, "Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel." With the Resource Center giving us ready access to our collections, we will be able to be teachers of teachers and share knowledge from our collections with learners of all ages. Please give to the Museum's education program. It will be an irrevocable gift to the next generation. We would be delighted to recognize your personal and your corporate contributions in our QuarterDeck and online.
